Context

In the bustling markets and vibrant communities of India, personal connections and celebrations were woven into the fabric of everyday life.

But then, the pandemic struck… Suddenly, the joy of exchanging greetings, sharing milestones, and building business relationships was silenced.

A desperate solution needed!
The pandemic's restrictions *left a void* in how people connected, leaving many, especially small businesses, struggling to adapt.

Amidst this challenge, a solution emerged –

Designed to empower connection and sustainability, Vyominnova began to take shape, offering a safe and accessible way to bridge the communication gap, even in the face of physical distancing.

The problem was bigger than we thought. Our initial research revealed alarming stats about deforestation.

India's rich traditions and vibrant culture are often expressed through the exchange of beautifully crafted cards for every occasion.

Yet, behind this beauty lies a hidden cost...
For instance, consider business cards
27 million business cards are printed daily
10 billion business cards are printed annually
8 billion will be tossed within a week. That's 88% of cards printed. This leads to the potential loss of approximately 6 million trees!


India's rich traditions and vibrant culture are often expressed through the exchange of beautifully crafted cards for every occasion.

Building the Right Product: Achieving Product-Market Fit Based on User Needs

And the first step to designing was understanding who are we solving for

Understanding our target audience was crucial in the design process

Through 20 interviews, I gained valuable insights into how people express their social relationships and the challenges they face adapting to virtual interactions due to the pandemic. The research highlighted a gap in the market: a lack of virtual tools that allow for personalized exchange of cards, especially in casual and personal settings.

Breakdown of the design decisions that brought the cards to life

We sold 120+ cards in a span of 8 months. Business cards, wedding cards and greeting cards were sold the most. We decided to not continue with resumes as there were other user needs like ATS compliance. Interestingly, our marriage biodatas also received appreciation. However, there were not many customer orders to get more insights about it.

"Finding the right designer, getting the cards designed and finally getting them in hand, the whole process was so tedious and time consuming."

There was a dire need for a platform to keep the designer and the customer in loop.

"Keeping the track of the order was a hassle."

The buying process lacked feedback.

"I couldn't find the cards people shared with me. I didn't save them anywhere."

Many users complained about retrieving the cards was difficult from their files.

Customer Feedback revealed many usage issues that led to further development of a platform

We successfully delivered cards to 120+ clients with an average of 95% user satisfaction. During the process, I learned so much as a designer as well as a leader. This experience was beyond just a technical project, but a pivoting point of my life. I learned about marketing, pitching ideas, studying the markets, client communication, handling deadlines and strengthening teams. I feel proud that my team put the first step towards a greener future. With more time, I want to take this platform to a deeper level by designing user journeys with rewards and user feedback to keep the users more aware of the sustainable impact they are making with their choice to adapt these cards.
